Kolar is a district headquarter town of Kolar district, located in the southern Indian
state of Karnataka. It is situated in the heart of Deccan plateau, on the southern
‘Maiden’ (plains) region of Karnataka. The town is located on National Highway
4(NH4) connecting Bangalore and Chennai. Bangarpet – Kolar state highway also
passes through the town. The town is at a distance of 68km from the state
capital, Bangalore and 39km from Kolar Gold Fields. Kolar is connected with broad
gauge railway line. The nearest railway junction is at Bangarpet at a distance of
about 15km from the town. The nearest airport is at Bangalore, 68km from the
town.
