Thane has devised a new way of easing the huge congestion of traffic on the two roads linking Mumbai and Kausa to Navi Mumbai. The civic Public Works Department (PWD) is actively considering to provide a tunnel road between Airoli in Navi Mumbai and the Bharat Gears Company junction. The TMC has been told to consider the possibility of erecting a two to three lanes wide tunnel road right under the series of mountains separating Kausa and Airoli. The road will hardly be three kilometers long with around one kilometer under the mountains. The road would provide a new and shorter route between the suburb of Thane and Navi Mumbai.
