Review of Chorao, North Goa

Chorao is a pristine, green island in North Goa District of Goa which houses the famous Dr. Salim.Ali Bird Sanctuary and is the largest among 17 islands located at Goa. It houses awesome designed Portuguese houses, great Churches and chapels, also some of the finest and best temples and includes the famous Vishnu.temple of Chodan. It is also named or called by Chodan or in Konkani Choddna. It has the ancient Portuguese Main church known as St. Bartholomews Church which was built in way back in the year 1603 Being an Island,.it also needs to be accessed by ferry on either side known as Ribander-Chorao ferry and the Pomburpa- Chorao ferry just 2kms away from St. Bartholomews Main church. Ferry is free for persons and two-wheelers and charges ₹10/- at Ribander end and ₹7/- for car at Pomburpa end of the ferry-jetty terminals. Besides it has tress and greenery all around and the main road connects like the letter "O" so you come back to the same point if you're driving along the main road which connect Chorao to its different wards. Besides it has 2 schools, 1 junior college, 4 banks with 4 ATM's and upteem number of grocery and horticulture stores. It also connects to Bicholim area through direct road connectivity and to Aldona village through the Calvim bridge connecting to Carona ward of Aldona. It has good number of vaddos or wards as it is called in English 15 wards in total, nor 100% precise though.

Pros:
  • Silent place with no noise pollution.
  • Trees with greenery view all around
  • Complete and self-sufficient village or place
Cons:
  • No road connectivity to Panjim or Mapusa, have to depend on a ferry
  • No degree college yet, have to.move out to take higher educatuon
  • Nuisance of cattle and stray dogs on the roads.
